Music Ministry

We announce with sadness that our longtime accompanist for the 5:30 Mass, Alex Ridder, is moving on to new opportunities.  His last night as our accompanist is this Saturday, March 9, 2013.  We will miss his patience, talent and sweet personality.  For the time being, our choir director, Isabel Miller, will replace him as accompanist at the 5:30 Mass, until we can find and hire a new accompanist for this Mass.

We wish Alex good luck in all his future endeavors.

RCIA Rite of Election

St. Stephens has the privilege to host the RCIA "Rite of Election" for the Chattnooga Deanery on February 17th at 1:00 p.m.  Sister Timothea has sent Cliff St. Pierre and Isabel Miller the music for the liturgy, listed below.  A rehearsal for this program will most likely be appended to the regular Tuesday night rehearsal on February 12th.  It has also been suggested that a choir pot luck gathering will be held after the 11:00 mass on 2/17, before the Rite of Election Mass; so we can enjoy each other's company along with some good food.  The potluck is tentative.  Please indicate to Cliff  (c.st.pierre@charter.net) whether you can particpate in the Rite of Election Mass and/or potluck.

Music for Rite of Election
  • Entrance: Hosea
  • Responsorial: Bless Me Lord, When I Am in Trouble
  • Gospel Acclamation: Praise to You, Lord Jesus Christ, King of Endless Glory
  • Acclamation: Blessed Be God, Who Calls You by Name, Holy and Chosen One
  • Presentation: Here I Am, Lord
  • General Intercessions: Lord, Hear Our Prayer
  • Recessional: We Are Called

Mass of Remembrance Rehearsal

The St. Stephens choir will be introducing the new Mass of Remembrance to the congregation at a future date, yet to be determined.  So in anticipation of this, a rehearsal will be held to familiarize the choir with this music.  For all who can attend, the Mass of Remembrance rehearsal will be held Sunday January 20 at 1:30.  Father Gilbert will be joining us.  We are hoping to have full participation of all choir members.

Prior to the rehearsal, the choir will have lunch in the Parish Hall following the 11:00 mass, then will proceed to the rehearsal at 1:30.  Please RSVP for the luncheon by signing up on the sheet in the choir rehearsal room, or email Cliff St. Pierre at c.st.pierre@charter.net, so they can get an accurate head count for the food needed.

Sheet music for this Mass should be available at this rehearsal and in the regular choir rehearsals held on Tuesday evening.  Please contact Cliff at the email listed above or Isabel Miller at music_ministry@ststephenchattanooga.com for more information.

New Mass Settings

The St. Stephens Music Ministry has decided to add the Mass of Renewal to our current list of musical mass settings.  The choir will be learning the various parts of this mass setting starting in December.  For now we will continue to use the Misa Luna as our mass setting during the mass.  As an alternative, we may on seasonal occasions also use the new Glendalough Mass, and we will be learning that as well.

Choir Rehearsal 8/28: Introduction to Cormac O'Duffy

Cormac O'Duffy, Music Director at St. Thomas in Lenoir City and composer of the Oratorio "Kingdom of God," will be visiting us this next Tuesday, August 28, during our regular rehearsal time.  We will not be having a regular rehearsal, so if you are not participating in this event, you need not attend.  If you have signed up to participate, please make every effort to come.  This will be our first introduction to this exciting project.
